1932 Austin Seven matchbox van sold at auction price of £10,700
October 29th saw the owner of the largest collection of Matchbox model vehicles acquire the ultimate ‘matchbox van’ at Barons’ sale. The 1932 Austin Seven van transformed in 1937 into an advertising vehicle for England’s Glory matches was bought for a price of £10,700.
Used primarily for advertising, it was fitted with 9″ wheels, and a black and white image of the original 1937 form exists when photographed with the shortest and tallest men in the country. It sat on a 1932 chassis. Restored back in the 1970s to ’80s, changes incorporated saw a total engine rebuild, re-wiring, new Connolly hide upholstery, excellent paintwork tyres, chassis, transmission and gearbox.
