Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S NART Spyder earlier in possession of Eddie Smith Sr who purchased the car for £5,000 back in 1968 has created a record as it sold at an auction in Monterey, California this past weekend for an astounding $27,500,000
Smith purchased the 1967 Ferrari early in the day, which is just one of 10 such models ever produced. The family of this late businessman and philanthropist who died in 2007, decided to auction the unique sports car which went on public sale at RM Auctions on Saturday.
Breaking a previous record for sale of a Ferrari, all proceeds from the auction will be donated to charity while the car itself will make its way to the private collection of an unnamed buyer in Switzerland.
One of these 10 noteworthy Ferrari 275 GTB/4*S NART Spyders was owned by Steve McQueen while another model was used in the filming of ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’. The car sports a V12 engine offering 330 bhp and an outstanding feature was that the car could reach a top speed of 160 mph way back in 1967.
