2013 Indian auto industry domestic sales low-down
Indian auto industry production of passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers and two wheelers in December 2013 stand at 1,734,593 vehicles as against 1,698,107 in December 2012, equating to 2.15% growth, which is largely attributed to two wheelers production.
Overall domestic sales growth is marginal at 2.30% for during April-December 2013, attributed again to two wheelers sales growth. Passenger Vehicles sales decline stands at 5.72 % during April-December 2013. Within passenger vehicles, passenger cars, utility vehicles and vans reported 4.92%, 4.39% and 15.06% sales decline respectively for April-December 2013 as compared to the same period in 2012.
Overall commercial vehicles segment registered 18.38% sales decline in April-December 2013 as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) recorded 26.92% sales decline, and light Commercial vehicle sales dropped by 13.90% for said 9 months.
3 Wheelers sales decline stands at 9.31% for April-December 2013 over the same period last year. Passenger Carriers and Goods Carriers registered 10.38% and 4.37% sales decline respectively in April-December 2013 over April-December 2012.
Two Wheelers sales growth stood at 5.40% during April-December 2013 over April-December 2012. Within the two wheelers segment, Scooters and Motorcycles sales growth is 19.89% and 2.48% respectively. Moped sales decline stands at 10.64% through April-December 2013 over April-December 2012.
During April-December 2013, overall automobile exports grew by 6.08%. Passenger vehicles, three wheelers and two Wheelers registered 8.49%, 16.13%, and 4.65% sales growth respectively, while commercial vehicles sales decline stands at 12.59% during April-December 2013 compared to the same period last year.
