2014 Formula 1 season finale Grand Prix to offer double points

As per decisions taken, the series will now award double points so as to add impetus to driver and teams towards end of the season as against earlier regulation which calculated their position on year end standings. This rule proved to be controversial but has been passed nonetheless.

Besides the regulation on double points, the system of assigning race numbers according to a driver or team performance in the previous year’s standing has been done away with and has been replaced by numbers which the drivers can select and retain for the entire duration of their racing profession. However, reigning World Champion will be allowed to retain No. 1 while numbers from 2 to 99 can be selected by teams and racers as per their preferences.

A new global cost cap has also been approved and will be in force from January 2015, while double driver and constructors points along with choice of numbers will be immediately applicable. For more information, scroll through the press release below.
