2014 Mini 3-door and 5-door India launch on 19th Nov 2014

BMW India will launch new Mini (3-door and 5-door) here on 19th November, 2014. Mini 5 door variant infuses enhanced dimensions on the exterior. Interior space, cabin and luggage compartment are enhanced too. Mini 5-door is a first for the Oxford based automaker, and was first reported in June 2014. Mini 5-door Countryman is expected in India.

New Mini 5-door is Wheelbase expanded by 72 millimetres to 2,567 millimetres, which facilitates three seats in the rear based on added foot space and legroom, 15 mm more headroom and 61 mm added interior width at elbow height. As compared to its 3-door variant, luggage compartment space is enhanced by 67 litres to 278 litres. Rear backrest with 60:40 split, and luggage compartment floor that can be locked into place is featured.

At 3,982 millimetres, length is extended by 161 mm over new Mini. Vehicle width is 1,727 mm, and height is increased by 11 mm to 1,425 mm. Mini Cooper S 5 door and Mini Cooper SD 5 door length stands at 4005 mm. Styling and design inputs include chrome surround headlamps and rear lights, hexagonal radiator grille, side turn indicator, and black body bordering.

Optional Mini driving modes (MID, Sport, Green) are changeable from a rotary switch located at the base of gear/selector lever. Safety is optimised with front and side airbags, side curtain airbags, 3-point automatic belts, belt tensioners and belt force limiters on front seats, twin ISOFIX children seat attachments, and tyre pressure control.

The new instrument cluster on the steering column displays road speed and engine speed, vehicle status details, and fuel level. Coloured lighting configs include LED ring for certain operations onboard. 4-line TFT display is a standard fitment with an optional colour display up to 8.8″. The centre console controller facilitates on screen navigation, entertainment, telephone and vehicle functions. Start/stop button at toggle switch bar is a keyless function.

Driver assistance systems include Head-Up-Display, Parking Assistant, rear view camera and Driving Assistant through camera-based active cruise control, collision and pedestrian warning with initial brake function, high beam assistant and road sign detection.

Mini Cooper S 5 door sports a 4-cylinder 1,998cc petrol engine with MINI TwinPower Turbo Tech to return max power of 141 kW/192 hp at 4,700 – 6,000 rpm, and max torque at 280 Nm at 1,250 – 4,750 rpm. This goes up to 300 Nm with overboost. MINI Cooper 5 door features a 3-cylinder 1,499 cc petrol engine with Mini TwinPower Turbo Tech to return max power of 100 kW/136 hp at 4,500 – 6,000 rpm and max torque at 220 Nm at 1,250 – 4,000 rpm. This goes to 230 Nm with overboost.
