2014 Tata Nano diesel spied: Delhi Auto Expo debut?
Tata Motors first launched Nano, world’s cheapest car back in 2008. It failed to perform as per expectations of manufacturers and marketing gurus. But, Tata is not in a mood to give-up, even when average sales hover a little below 2,000 units, as against capacity to manufacture 20,000 units a month.
Tata Motors has already confirmed the launch of diesel Nano in India by March 2014. Now, a camouflaged variant of Tata Nano diesel has been spied testing around their plant in Pimpri, Pune. As per leaked information, new Tata Nano diesel engine will be a 800 cc common rail diesel engine. It will have a capacity to generate power of 40.2 bhp and torque of 70 Nm, while giving a mileage of 30+ kmpl, thus making new Nano diesel India’s most fuel efficient car.
Though Tata has not stated that they will debut new Nano diesel at 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, it seems only logical to show the car at India’s biggest motor show, which is scheduled to take place between 7th-11th February 2014. Currently, Tata Nano is offered in a choice of petrol and CNG fuel options which are priced from Rs 1.50 lakhs (base petrol) to Rs 2.45 lakh (base CNG).
Nano diesel price is expected to be in the range of Rs 2.5-3 lakh, making it the cheapest diesel car in India. Diesel powered Nano is expected to be a major game changer for the company, but only time will tell how successful new Nano diesel will be in the Indian auto industry. (Images via)
