The Rickshaw Run, an event which has been conducted since 2006 has raised over £2,000,000 (around INR 20 crores) to date. This year’s edition will see each team raise about £1000 (INR 1 lakh) for charity, out of which 50% will be donated to Cool Earth, the official rainforest preservation charity. The Rickshaw Run will take participants through most scenic of countryside and across most difficult of terrain. What sets this event apart is the fact that participants do not have to follow any fixed route while they have no back up as well and are entirely on their own to face whatever hardships the route has to offer.

Coming to Shillong for five years, The Rickshaw Run has been conducted in different locations over the years right from Manali, Darjeeling, Kathmandu, Goa and Puducherry. Mr. Matthew Dickens, Event Manager, has cited Kochi, Jaisalmer and Shillong as ideal locations as they are the correct distance apart from each other. This allows participants to undertake the challenge and complete the same in stipulated time frame of two weeks.
