2016 Chevrolet Volt detailed, launch in US later this year

The second generation Chevrolet Volt gears up for launch in the US later this year as a 2016 model. It promises to be more efficient and quicker than its earlier counterpart while weight is reduced by 45 kgs.

General Motors offers the 2016 Chevrolet Volt with a total driving range of 676 kms while travel over 1,609 kms is assured between fuel refills. 2016 Chevrolet Volt receives a 1.5 liter engine rated at 149 hp and 398 Nm torque. The engine allows acceleration of 0 to 50 kmph in 2.6 seconds and from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.4 seconds.

Battery capacity is also enhanced on the new Volt to 18.4 kWh using 192 cells while weight is reduced by 9.8 kgs. The battery takes about 13 hours for a full recharge on a 124V outlet and 4.5 hours on 240V outlet.

Where styling of 2016 Chevrolet Volt is concerned, a host of photos have been leaked showing off various elements prior to its unveiling at Detroit Auto Show in January this year. Visually, 2016 Volt appears to have a lower nose as compared to its current model while front grille is larger in the bumper with a slimmer upper grille, both of which are in Volt silver patterned plate.

The Volt in a blue exterior also sees a swept back headlight unit while photos indicate an aileron to smooth airflow at the lower corner of the front end above a black rubber airdam under the front fascia. Interiors boast of comfortable seating for upto 5 adults and while middle back seat is small, cargo area is spacious. Attractive upholstery, easy to use button and dials and an 8” touch screen with Apple CarPlay, compatible with Apple Siri and apps line Pandora and mapping will be on offer on the 2016 Chevrolet Volt.

Price of the new Volt starts from $33,995 ($1,175 less than the outgoing variant).
