This 2016 Toyota Fortuner render could be the real thing

Premium D-segment SUV market in India has Toyota Fortuner as the go-to vehicle. Will the launch of updated versions of its rivals and a new American, blow that crown away from the segment-king’s roof?

Second gen Toyota Fortuner is in progress, well, it’s almost ready, but so are its close nemeses.

Toyota Fortuner took no time to establish itself as a mighty force in its segment, and in all these years nothing has come close to threatening its fame in the country. Now, as the company prepares to introduce second generation Fortuner, are they worried about competition? If Toyota builds the Fortuner as seen in the above render, they have nothing to worry about.

Among the competition, 2016 Toyota Fortuner will be facing, next gen Ford Endeavour and new Chevrolet Trailblazer SUVs seem to be the ones that can manage to come as close as a rival could. But worry not, says chatter. Toyota Fortuner still manages its average monthly sales of 1,500 units, while its challengers are striving for a three digit figure.

The new Fortuner teaser shows a new dynamic shoulder line that compromises the Day Light Opening area of third window for sportier and more rugged look of the new generation model.

Given the second generation Toyota Fortuner has a lot more to offer than the outgoing model, like the totally renovated styling with sleek & edgy features, and thoroughly revised mechanicals. The new model is expected to be underpinned by an updated version of IMV platform, which is believed to turn out to be a lot lighter but much stiffer. Combined with possible longer wheelbase, we would be looking at a more capable, sophisticated and comfortable SUV capable of touring with 7 occupants through treacherous terrains. If the 3.0 litre diesel engine does offer more power, to the tune of 187 bhp, then the Fortuner will be a lot more compelling proposition than it already is.
