540, 000 vehicles recalled by Nissan: Brake pedal and gas gauge issue

Japanese automaker, Nissan Motor Co, is recalling nearly 540, 000 pickup trucks, sports utility, and minivans owing to the problems with brake pedals and fuel gauges.

The company has confirmed the most affected vehicles are from the United States, with scattered number across the globe.

The speculation is that the brake pedal recalls affects 179, 000 vehicles in U.S, and about 26000 in Middle East, Canada, Russia, and other countries.

Explaining the issue, Nissan said that the pin in the pedal assemblies on certain 2008 to 2010 Nissan Titan pickups, Infiniti QX56, and Nissan Quest minivans can become loose, causing reduced braking force.

Though no injuries or crashes have been reported, the company as a safety measure has advised customers with loose brakes to contact the dealers.

The company has identified the problem as a manufacturing defect by the parts supplier. The company also affirmed that the new vehicles that have been released do not have the same issue.

Apart from this issue, Nissan is also recalling 419, 000 vehicles in United States and 53000 across countries owing to the gas gauges that can show fuel left in tank, even though the tank is empty.

This issue affects the Nissan Titan, Armada and Infiniti QX56s as well as Nissan Frontier pickups, and Pathfinder and Xterra SUVs produced from January to March 2006, and October 2007 to January 2008.

As a tentative solution, Nissan suggests keeping the gas half-tank full in vehicles until the gauges can be repaired. Meanwhile, the owner of such Nissan cars will be notified about when to bring their cars for repairs.
