2014 Small Wonder: An Insight of the TATA Nano

Its interiors and exteriors were designed at Italy’s Institute of Development in Automotive Engineering. Let’s breakdown some of the best features of the TATA Nano:

Comfort and Convenience

The Nano comes in three variants, the basic model being just the Nano and the highest model being the Nano LX. The LX version packs a lot more of comfort and convenience features for a hatchback. A 12 V power socket with bottle holder in the front console, a co-driver sun visor with integrated vanity mirror, a driver and passenger seat with recliner and power windows.

Safety and Security

The Nano LX sports radial tubeless tires for betterstability on-road and doesn’t accidentally burst in case of low pressure. Remote keyless entry with central locking ensures safety in terms of locking all doors and not painstakingly checking whether all the doors are locked.

Exterior

The Nano LX boasts of body colored bumpers and door handles adding to sporty look. A 2-speed intermittent front wiper and washer enhance visibility during monsoons.Body colored driver and passenger side ORVMs add to the aesthetic appeal of the Nano LX.

Interior

To make the interior look more visually appealing the Nano LX gets various color variants for the upholstery, door trim, and dashboard and center fascia to choose from. The twin glove box installed on the dashboard provides for ample storage.

Engine and Performance

The Nano LX boasts of a 624cc engine which produces 38PS of power at 5500 RPM and 51 NM of torque at 4000 RPM. It consists of a 4 speed manual gearbox and boasts of a staggering 25 km/l mileage. Driving the Nano is very convenient in city traffic as it has a very small turning radius of 4 meters and provides comfortable acceleration because of its body to weight ratio.

‘Happiness comes in small packages,’ is a slogan that seems to be echoing in minds of most first-time car owners. Can all factors such as mileage, extraordinary features and stylish exteriors be reason enough to sustain the enthusiasm with which the car was launched all those years back? Whether the car will stand the test of time despite the increasing demands of future car owners is yet to be seen.
