A launch early last week, sees EcoSport set to be a game changer in the SUV segment in the country. Available at a price of Rs 5.59 lakh for its entry level petrol variant, one could surmise that this would pose competition to M&M’s hold over SUV markets as the EcoSport lures compact utility vehicle buyers. In the entry level SUV segment, Mahindra Quanto is pretty much a lone warrior from Indian automaker.
Ford EcoSport has been launched in sub 4 meter segment which means that it takes advantage of lower excise duty. And of course in the broader sense of being SUV’s EcoSport will certainly try to acquire buyers who have considered the Bolero, Scorpio, Xylo, and XUV 500. The Ssangyong Rexton luxury SUV also gets a run for their money because the EcoSport isn’t devoid of luxury, and proves to be a budget option in this case.
Prior to the EcoSport launch, Ford had only one SUV on offer in India, that being the Endeavor. However, the EcoSport launch, is expected to be a major game changer in here, which the months ahead will prove. Mahindra two wheelers though is going from strength to strength expanding their bike portfolio. With 10 launches lined up by the end 2015, Mahindra Centuro 110cc is now available at a launch price of Rs 44,000 for the 1st 10,000 bookings. Thereafter, the introductory price offer ceases, and the bike will cost Rs 45,000.
