Global launch of these efficient, faster and operator friendly buses from Ashok Leyland was directed at the Government of West Bengal who were the first to respond in booking of these buses. The Government wishes to revolutionize urban transportation in the state and is certain that these world class buses will fit the bill. The government has ordered a total of 449 JanBuses under the JNNURM scheme while in due course a fleet of 1,600 buses will be delivered phase wise in various states.
Trasport Secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay asserts that these state of the art buses with unique features such as multiplexing, passenger information system and vehicle tracking besides a unique infotainment system will instigate car owners to opt for buses instead.
Ashok Leyland, the Chennai-based truck and bus maker, a part of the Hinduja Group, has brought about a revolution in the JanBus which comes in with a simple yet contemporary design. Entry to the bus sees just one step at 650mm off the road surface, thus proving to be highly effective for use by older or differently-abled citizens.
The doors which come in various configurations to include single sides or three openings besides double sided for BRTS operations, open wide and swing open and shut hydraulically. Ashok Leyland has applied for 16 patents on the construction and layout of the JanBus which comes in with a 235 HP turbocharged MPFI engine fuelled by CNG while complying the BS4 standards.
