Ashok Leyland JanBus global launch in City of Joy (Brochure)
In a bid to introduce innovative, comfortable and affordable urban transportation, the Government of West Bengal has taken possession of a fleet of 30 front engined, low floor buses from Ashok Leyland. Aptly called ‘JanBus’ or People’s Bus, these buses have been officially handed over to the State Transport Minister, Madan Mitra, which also marks its global launch.
Trasport Secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay asserts that these state of the art buses with unique features such as multiplexing, passenger information system and vehicle tracking besides a unique infotainment system will instigate car owners to opt for buses instead.
Ashok Leyland, the Chennai-based truck and bus maker, a part of the Hinduja Group, has brought about a revolution in the JanBus which comes in with a simple yet contemporary design. Entry to the bus sees just one step at 650mm off the road surface, thus proving to be highly effective for use by older or differently-abled citizens.
The doors which come in various configurations to include single sides or three openings besides double sided for BRTS operations, open wide and swing open and shut hydraulically. Exteriors have a clean and distinctive look. Ashok Leyland has applied for 16 patents on the construction and layout of the JanBus which comes in with a 235 HP turbocharged MPFI engine fuelled by CNG while complying the BS4 standards.
