Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen receive 2012 eCarTec Award

Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen are together recipients of the prestigious 2012 eCarTec Awards along with BMW and Daimler and two other development partners. This award for electric mobility is being bestowed on the companies due to their joint efforts in bringing about a universal charging system in category of Energy, Infrastructure and Connection technology.

Through this development a single interface in the vehicle allows the combined charging system in single phase to alternate with quick AC charging with a three phase connection, a DC connection can be used for home charging while an ultra fast DC charging can be utilized for charging stations. This system therefore allows customers to charge their vehicles from whatever type of charging station is in their vicinity irrespective of power source and speed.

All electric vehicles being offered by German carmakers – Audi, BMW, Porsche and Volkswagen from 2013 will be fitted with this fast DC charging option equipped with Combined Charging System. This system was demonstrated on real vehicles at the eCarTec trade show recently concluded in Munich.
