Honda has announced an automatic variant of their City sedan in India in the form S-AT with a 5-speed automatic transmission. The Honda City S-AT model is basically the mid level variant of the Honda City sedan lineup. Before the inclusion of this model, there was only one automatic model in the form of the V-AT model. This new model will be priced at Rs. 76,000 more than the manual gear shifter in this lineup.

The inclusion of the S-AT increases the total number of City variants in the line to 8. This new S-AT model is powered by the same 1.5L I-VTec petrol engine, that powers all of Honda City cars in India. The new S-AT weighs 50 kgs more than its manual counterpart, due to the heavier automatic gearshift kit. The mileage provided by this model is 15.6 kmpl which is less than the 16.8 kmpl delivered by the manual version.

Other brands like Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki and Volkswagen are also providing their cars with superior automatic gear shift transmissions. The Hyundai Fluidic is one of the cars which is available with a diesel automatic variant. New Ford Fiesta possesses one of the most fuel efficient automatic gear transmission in this segment.
