Axalta Waterborne paint Coatings Capacity expansion in China
Axalta Coating Systems is expanding its manufacturing capacity for coatings with a new $50 million eco-friendly waterborne facility in the Jiading district of Shanghai.
Alongside dignitaries, Axalta Chairman and CEO Charlie Shaver celebrated a new phase in the companyâ€™s commitment to the China automobile industry.
â€śWe invested in this facility to meet growing customer needs for high-performance water-based paint coatings solutions. With this new facility, we are expanding our capacity to provide waterborne paints to help Chinaâ€™s auto industry develop sustainably,â€ť Mr. Shaver told the audience at the ground breaking ceremony. â€śOur technological leadership focuses on developing environmentally friendly paint coating solutions. Our new facility will also employ the latest generation production systems to reduce the environmental footprint of our operations.â€ť
Lean and Green Automotive Coating process includes primer-less coatings and 3-wet coatings for full layer performance without flash and bake between coats. It meets global environmental requirements, such as the EUâ€™s VOC Regulation 2004/42/EC.

For sustainable development of Chinaâ€™s automotive industry, the government has issued regulations, including all new automotive manufacturersâ€™ production lines to use eco-friendly waterborne paint coating products.

Axalta paint coatings stands for 145 years of product innovation, and 2014 marks the 30th year for them in business in China. In China Axalta has a plant in Changchun and a second Jiading facility, five powder coating operations in collaboration with joint venture partners, 4 refinish training centers, a Global Color Lab and Asia Pacific Innovation Center in Shanghai to support R&D, and a new Asia Pacific head ofice also in Shanghai.
