Press Note on Bajaj Auto and Worker Union High-court Hearing
April, 25th 2014: Bajaj Auto Limited, Chakan had filed a Writ Petition No.2790 / 2014 before the Hon’ble High Court, Bombay, challenging the order of the Dy. Commissioner of Labour, Pune, dated 7th October 2013, wherein Labour Department referred new demands of the union to the Industrial Tribunal, Pune, inspite of the fact that the settlement dated 21st May 2010 is in vogue, which is valid till 31st March 2019.
When the Writ Petition came for hearing today i.e. on 25th April 2014, the union prayed the High Court to grant Rs.10,000/- per month per workman as an interim relief. However, the High Court did not allow the prayer. On management’s prayer to stay proceeding before the Industrial Tribunal, Pune, High Court orally directed that the issue of unlawful reference of charter of demands submitted by the union be decided first by the Industrial Tribunal, Pune, before deciding the Reference and the interim relief demand made by the union.
