The Pune based two wheeler manufacturer, Bajaj Auto have seen spectacular results during the month of December 2012. The company saw motorcycle and commercial vehicle sales increase by 13% and 9% respectively during December 2012. Consolidated sales and exports too accounted for a 13% and 5% hike respectively and these sales figures are noteworthy considering the auto industry is being bogged down by sluggish sales which even the festive season of Dusshera and Diwali failed to revive.
Bajaj Auto sold a total of 3.44 lakh vehicles in December, marking their highest ever dispatches in December as compared to 3.06 lakh units in December 2011. The company sold 2.98 lakh motorcycles in December marking a 13% increase from 2.64 lakh units sold in December 2011. Commercial vehicle sales too stood at 45,596 units as compared to 41,991 units in the same month of the previous year.
These results were more significant due to the fact that buyers usually shy away from purchases in December, postponing them to the next calendar year. Exports stood at 1.26 lakh units during December 2012 as compared to 1.20 lakh units in December 2011. However, year to date sales of motorcycles for the current fiscal was 1% lower and commercial vehicles were 9% lower.
