Engine of Discover 150 S is not same as Pulsar 150’s. New 144.8 cc single cylinder mono spark ignition air cooled engine in Discover 150 S produces 14.5 PS @ 8500 rpm and 12.75 Nm @ 6500 rpm. While much acquainted 149 cc DTS-i air cooled single cylinder engine in Pulsar 150 produces 15.06 PS @ 9000 rpm and 12.5 Nm @ 6500 rpm. Gearbox in new Discover has all-up pattern unlike sporty one-down-four-up seen in other 150cc bikes.
Although Discover 150 S sports slightly smaller engine, power to weight ratio should be more or less equal to Pulsar’s. Discover 150 S weighs about 15 kg less than Pulsar making it easy to manoeuvre in city traffic.
Bajaj Pulsar is obviously longer and wider than Discover 150 S but the commuter stands taller. Wheelbase of Pulsar is more than newcomer, and both have identical ground clearance reading.
Both 150cc segment bikes from Bajaj have identical rear tire parameters but Pulsar sits on 2.75-17″ rubber on front while Discover 150 S has 80/100-17″. All four tires are tubeless. Latter has option of drum and disc brake to hold front wheel while Pulsar 150 has disc brake as standard feature. Rear wheel of either bike gets the luxury of drum brake only.
Being a daily office – home bike, Discover 150 S should do good with usual 10 litres fuel tank capacity seen in Discover nameplate. While slightly enthusiast and long ride oriented Pulsar 150 benefits from 15 litre tank.
Coming down to price, Bajaj Discover 150 S seems clear winner, not against Pulsar in particular, but in entire 150cc segment as, well, it costs only Rs. 51,721 (ex-showroom Pune), while Pulsar 150 is priced at Rs. 66,963.
