Following US President Barack Obama’s visit to Freightliner trucks production plant in Mount Holly, North Carolina earlier this year, the US President, paid a visit to the headquarters of Daimler AG plant in Redford, Michigan. It is from this plant that the company produces powertrains for its Freightliner and Western Star brand of trucks and is the only manufacturer in the NAFTA Region (US, Canada and Mexico) with a fully integrated powertrain from its own production.

Daimler Trucks is scheduled to invest $120 million and offer 115 new job opportunities during the course of their expansion plans at the Redfood location. Barack Obama commended the company on their expansion plans and emphasized the importance for this venture in the State of Michigan.

Future plans are also in place whereby the company will be producing Detroit DT12 automated manual transmission and a new asymmetric turbo charger – Detroit DD15 due to which Daimler Trucks will be the first commercial vehicle manufacturer in NAFTA region to offer fully integrated powertrains from their own production.
