Once again, it was four of Maruti Suzuki models that claimed first four places on the list of top 10 selling passenger cars in April 2015.
Apart from this, it was after a gap of seven months that Hyundai’s Xcent entered the list though in 10th position. Honda Amaze, which featured in 10th position in April 2014 failed to make it to the list. 4,666 units of Hyundai Xcent were sold in April 2015 while the last time it found mention on the list was in September 2014 with 4,481 units sold. Honda Amaze which had been featured on the list for the past four months lost its place to the Hyundai Xcent.
Maruti Suzuki Alto sales increased 28 percent to 21,531 units in April 2015 as against 16,763 units sold in April 2014 while Swift sales increased 16 percent to 18,444 units in April 2015 as compared to 16,007 units sold in the same month of the previous year. It was also Maruti Suzuki’s DZire and Wagon R that stood in 3rd and 4th place, with 18,316 and 13,872 units sold respectively.
Hyundai Xcent with Shah Rukh KhanHMIL’s Elite i20 that came in to take the place of the i20 stood at 5th position with 9,893 units sold as against sales of 3,459 units of i20 while Grand i10 sales dipped by 9 percent in April to 8,792 units as against 9,612 units sold in April 2014.
Overall, passenger vehicle sales increased 19 percent in April 2015 as compared to the same month in 2014. New launches, promotional schemes, increased urban demand ensured increased sales in April while the wedding season, lower fuel prices and lowered rates of interest also contributed to the positive response.
