To be offered in petrol and diesel guise, the base petrol model, 116i is the priced at Rs 20.90 lakh. Only one trim will be on offer in petrol, while in diesel there will be three trims on offer. 118d, 118d Sport, 118d Sport Plus. Price of these variants is at Rs 22.90 lakh, Rs 25.90 lakh, and Rs 29.90 lakh respectively.
To be offered in a choice of 8 colors, Alpine White (non metallic), Black Sapphire, Crimson red, Deep sea blue, Glacier silver, Midnight Blue, Mineral grey, and Valencia Orange, the new 1 Series will be assembled in India. The petrol version is not only cheaper, but is also more powerful than competitors, Mercedes Benz A Class and B Class. But, the price of diesel variants of A Class and B Class is lesser than that of 1 Series, which is surprising as the former is imported as a CBU while the latter as CKD.
BMW 1 Series petrol unit will be a 1.6 liter four cylinder engine offering 136 PS power and 220 Nm torque while its diesel counterpart will have a 2.0 liter four cylinder engine under its bonnet offering 143 PS power and 320 Nm torque. Both these engines will be mated 8 speed automatic gearbox, delivering power to the rear wheels.
Much more than a regular hatchback, the 1 Series is unique as it has a longitudinal position for its front engine rear wheel drive layout. It is this layout that is more favored as it offers better driving delights as compared to that offered by the regular front wheel drive hatchback. Seats are low and this gives the hatchback a sporty appeal while the dashboard bears a distinguishing 8.8 inch screen.
