BMW’s new all electric i3 Concept Coupe was the cynosure of all attention at the 2012 LA Motor Show held last month. BMW showcased the 2 door coupe to compliment the 4 door hatchback that is scheduled for launch at the end of 2013, while the i3 will be in company showrooms early 2013. This is the first ever all electric model from BMW i brand, which is now ready for production.
The all electric i3 Concept Coupe sports a bold design. It has all the makings of a classic BMW sports coupe. Rear wheels are powered by a 170 hp engine offering 184 lb/ft torque mounted on a light weight carbon fiber reinforced plastic body. Due to its electric transmission it means that the car has zero emissions. Concept Coupe offers a 160 kms range. BMW also announced partnership with Boeing to develop methods of recycling carbon fiber which is seen throughout the Concept Coupe’s makeup.
Its interiors are seen with enhanced rear seat space and offers occupants enhanced visibility. Materials used are wood, wool and kenaf fiber and leather. Leather is not for seats as these are covered with wool yarn and monofilament material and is only seen on door panels. Leather is tanned from an extract made from leaves of the olive tree and is hence a greener production method. Watch the video below for more information.
