BMW i8 Hybrid sportscar receives a futuristic design. To be offered in limited numbers (we have heard its just 3, of which Sachin is one), the new BMW i8 sees extensive use of carbon fibre and aluminium, contributing to its light weight of just 1485 kgs.
BMW i8 receives a 1.5 liter, 3 cylinder petrol engine and electric motor which in combination generates 360 bhp peak power and 570 Nm peak torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph is achieved in 4.4 seconds and top speed stands at 250 kmph. The electric motor comprises of a 2 speed gearbox sending power to front wheels while the rear wheels are mated to a 6 speed gearbox.
BMW i8 is only car other than the Audi R8 LMX to sport laser beam headlights in India. It is based on BMW’s vision efficient Dynamics concept and receives scissor doors, a kidney grille, sharp headlights and a host of other external features that give the model an aggressive stance. Interiors of the sportscar car, dressed in a combination of leather and chrome plastic, sport a futuristic design with colour changing light pattern on dashboard, a digital driver cockpit and head up display depicting all vital information. Drivers can select various drive modes which include Sport, Comfort and Eco Pro depending on driving conditions.
To be officially launched by master blaster Sachin Tendulkar today, BMW i8 finds no competition in India. Pricing is yet to be confirmed and will be revealed in a few hours but estimated to cost about INR 2 crores on road. Rush Lane readers can witness the BMW i8 launch LIVE on their screen.
