BMW i8 spied inside Mumbai dealership, launch next month

BMW i8 hybrid sportscar will be launched in India in February 2015. The flagship BMW was recently spotted at a company dealership in Mumbai heralding its arrival though it is also confirmed that the company will be dispatching only an extremely limited number for sale in India.

First revealed in September 2013 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, i8 is the first plug-in hybrid vehicle from the BMW Group.

BMW i8 hybrid sportscar will come in with a price tag upwards of INR 2 crores. Exclusive in design and the first of its kind, the i8 will not see any direct competition in the market, but as far as price is concerned, it will find competition from Audi R8 and yet to be launched Mercedes AMG GT.

Sporting swan doors and laser headlights, the upcoming BMW i8 is powered by a 1.5 liter three cylinder engine along with a 129 HP electric motor. The petrol engine is capable of 231 PS power and 320 Nm torque while the electric motor is capable of 131 PS power and 250 Nm torque. Both these engines in conjuncture will be able to produce 362 PS power and 570 Nm torque

BMW i8 hybrid sportscar is lightweight, thanks to excessive use of carbon fiber body parts. It weighs only 1,485 kgs. BMW i8 can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.4 seconds and hit a top speed of 250 kmph. On pure electric power, the i8 is good for 37 kms with speeds of 120 kmph.
