BMW 3 Series GT India launch 2014: i3 and i8 under consideration
BMW India recently announced investments of Rs 210 crores at their plant in Chennai, which takes their total output capacity to 14k units annually. With this increased capacity, BMW India plans to increase their product portfolio, starting with the 3 Series GT, which is scheduled to be launched in 2014.
BMW 3 Series GT has already been spotted in India, confirming that the launch is near. In addition to these new products, the German automakers also have plans to increase dealer count. Current dealerships stand at 35, while BMW expects to increase this to 50 in due course. Operations will be expanded to smaller markets of Guwahati, Patna, Dehradun and Agra, while a training center for dealers in India is also in the making.
BMW currently has 14 models in its Indian lineup. The company is also mulling electric cars such as BMW i3 and i8. The i3 sells at around €35,000 (INR 29.5 lakh) and has a drive range of 130 to 160 kms. i8 on the other hand can reach a drive range of 500 kms and both vehicles are ideally suited for use in metros which are already tackling problems of pollution and congestion.
