BMW India motorcade driving the indomitable spirit of Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2014 starts tomorrow (Thursday, January 16) from Trident Hotel, Nariman Point, at 3:00 PM. Enthusiasts can join in to cheer the convoy with Damon Hill (Former F1 driver), International Event Ambassador in celebrating Mumbai’s invincible spirit.
Schumi’s ardent rival in the mid 90’s was announced as International Event Ambassador of Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (USD 360,000 prize money) by Procam International earlier in the year.
Damon Hill has to his name 122 Grand Prix entries, 22 Grand Prix wins, 42 Podiums, 20 Pole positions and 19 Fastest laps in his F1 racing career. His Grand Prix career began in the 1991 season as a test driver with Williams team while still competing in the F3000 series. He’s the only son of a Formula One champion (Graham Hill) to win the championship himself.
Damon Hill will be in Mumbai from Thursday, January 16 till event day. Upon his selection despite his undistinguished racing record, Frank Williams said it was because he was ‘a tough bastard’ and he admired his ‘fierce inner determination.’ During Hill’s visit to Mumbai, he’ll meet with the sponsors and partners, elite athletes, and encourage amateur athletes, and later will talk about the event and the running in India globally.
Damon Hill’s association with Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2014 is in line with Procam International’s efforts to bring to India accomplished sportsmen to raise the profile of the sport of distance running. Event ambassadors in the past include Haile Gebrselassie, Michael Johnson, Mike Powell, Linford Christie, Paul Tergat, Steve Ovett, Gail Devers, Dame Kelly Holmes, Dan O’Brien, Cathy Freeman, Kapil Dev and Vijay Amritraj among others.
