BMW M5 which is currently one of the most powerful luxury four door sedans available in the market, is all set to get a diesel powered variant. At the Geneva Motor Show later this year, BMW is expected to unveil M5 diesel luxury sports sedan for the first time.
German auto news website, Auto Zeitung, has reported that BMW is planning on expanding their range of M Brand by adding diesel variants. The first car under BMW M Brand to be launched with a diesel engine will be a M5 sedan and it will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show later this year.
Of course the BMW diesel M5 will be less powerful than its petrol counterpart, as it will be powered by a 3.0L V6 generating maximum power of 376 bhp and maximum torque of 564 lb-ft. BMW is expected to christen their diesel M5 as xDrive M550d. Other features include three turbochargers and all wheel drive.
On the economy front, diesel M5 will be more economical than the petrol M5 as it will return a mileage of 37 mpg. On a later stage, BMW is expected to install diesel engine in their other M models. Expect X5 M and X6 M to be launched with diesel engines as a part of this initiative.
