Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India says new BMW M5 embodies pure athleticism through power delivery, torque, driving dynamics. Not one for conventional rules, new M5, an independent production of BMW M GmbH combines high performance with optimum everyday practicality for the open road or in the city.

BMW M5 street presence draws one’s attention to its front with large air inlets and aerodynamically optimised M wing mirrors, and hard to miss side sills. The M kidney grille features a M5 logo between the Adaptive LED Headlights. LED rear lights make it easy to recognise from behind. M-specific controls are placed for optimum access. The M leather steering wheel uses visual cues inspired from its double-spoke wheels. Paddle shifters on it put all seven gears of the M Double Clutch transmission with Drivelogic at your fingertip. There’s a storage compartment under the armrest in the centre console area. iDrive (on-board Driver Information System with touch controller and handwriting recognition) operating system control display has chrome trims on the sides.

Power comes from the M TwinPower Turbo eight-cylinder petrol engine, BMW’s most powerful production engine. Max torque is reported as 680 Nm with max power output of 412 kW / 560 hp. BMW M5 goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. 7-speed M dual-clutch transmission with Cruise Control optimises shifting and driving comfort for better gear shifting.

Driving performance is optimised through active M Differential at the rear axle and suspension that is tuned to precision. Safety features include air bags, Active M Differential, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with M Dynamic mode, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist, Active Protection with Attentiveness Assistant and Active headrests (front).

M5 performance-to-fuel-consumption ratio is boosted through its Intelligent Lightweight Construction, Automatic Start/Stop function, Brake Energy Regeneration, Electric Power Steering, 50:50 Weight Distribution and other tech.

BMW Navigation Professional (integrated Global Positioning System – GPS) is integrated in a 25.9 cm colour display with 3D maps. HUD with M-specific views, Harman Kardon sound system, and BMW Apps are on offer. Park Distance Control (PDC) rear and front along with rear view camera are available as standard features.

New BMW M5 remains a CBU (Completely Built-Up) unit, and is available across all company dealerships from today. Next up from BMW India is the new M3 and M4, which will be launched this week.
