BMW M5 turns 30: shows how to celebrate in a new video
It has been 30 years since the BMW M5 came into being. This definitely calls for some celebrations and that’s exactly what BMW is doing. They are celebrating the 30th birthday of M5 with a new video, in true M5 style.
The birth of M5 was due to a growing demand in the 80s, for a car that could carry four passengers, but would still deliver the performance of a sports car. Based on the 1980 E12 M535i, the first BMW car to wear the M5 badge was the E28, which debuted at the 1984 Amsterdam Motor Show. The E28 M5 stayed in production till 1988 and sold 2,191 units.
After this, came the E34 M5. Hand-built, the E34 was produced between 1989 to 1995. Following this, BMW launched the E39 M5 after unveiling it at the 1998 Geneva Motor Show. The first M5 to use the V8 engine, E39 stayed in production from 1998 to 2003.
Following the E39, BMW launched the E60 M5. Featuring a V10 engine, E39 became the worlds first production car to be powered by a V10 engine. It was also the most successful M5 in history with 20,548 units sold in the period from 2001 to 2010.
E39 was followed by the currently M5 – F10, which you see in the video above. It is powered by a 4.4 L V8 turbo petrol generating 560 hp and 680 Nm. Unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, the F10 M5 made its India debut at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo.
