BMW, rickshaw accident – CCTV confirms MLA’s son was drunk and in driver’s seat

Earlier this month, Siddharth Maharia, son of Independent MLA from Fatehpur, Nandkishore Maharia, may have vehemently claimed that he was not driving his BMW at the time of the accident, but CCTV footage proves otherwise.

Jaipur’s BMW hit and run case involving the MLAs son has taken a turn, when it has been proved through CCTV footage that it was indeed 20 year old Maharia junior who was at the wheel of the ill fated BMW.

CCTV footage from the hotel shows Siddharth along with his friends consuming alcohol following which he got into the driver’s seat. The friends then proceeded to a café from the hotel where they smoked hookah and then dropped a friend home. The BMW then raced ahead to St. Xavier’s school where the accident occurred.

The BMW allegedly travelling at a speed of 100 kmph in the early hours of July 2, hit an auto rickshaw and then hit a PCR van. Three persons were killed while one was injured while four policemen including an Assistant Sub Inspector were also injured.

The past week saw two persons appearing in court stating that they were behind the wheel of the BMW, even as police maintain that it was Siddharth. Recent CCTV footage from nearby hotel confirm that Siddharth was driving the BMW while breath analyzer test conducted on Siddharth confirmed that alcohol levels were at 152 mg/100 ml over and above permissible limit of 30 mg/100 ml

Cops have procured a copy of the Hotel bill and CCTV footage. They are building a strong case, but as the laws for rash driving are not strict, it is possible that Maharia may not even serve time in jail.
