2009 saw BMW losing profits on car sales by 10.4% and 14.1% on motorcycles. This has forced BMW to implement different strategies to increase sales. One of the strategies is reducing manufacturing costs.
BMW is already a customer of India for raw materials like castings, assembly and gears for manufacturing motorcycles. Now they want to increase this list of raw materials not only for motorcycles but for cars as well.
ACMA – Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (India) are already exporting components worth $1 billion to top car manufacturers like Fiat, Volkswagen, General Motors and Ford. Today the total export of ACMA is $20 billion per year which they want to increase to $40 billion by 2016.
