BMW will be bringing out a new small and entry level engine specially designed for the entry level X3 xDrive 28i SUV. Production will commence in April 2012 while the engine will be fitted to the 2013 model year vehicle.
2013 X3 xDrive28i will be a powered by a 2.0L turbocharged four cylinder generating 241 horsepower. The new engine will also have an eight speed automatic transmission, as was seen in the earlier engine model. The new engine from BMW will have better output compared to its predecessor and despite the fact that horsepower is same, the four cylinder offers 260 lb/ft torque which is a great improvement as compared to 3.0 liters offering 221 lb/ft torque.
Though BMW have yet not disclosed any details about fuel economy as on date, it is definite that the new engine will offer better ratings as compared to 19 mpg in city limits and 25 mpg on highway what the X3 SUV entry level is offering at present.
