BMW X3 vs Audi Q5 vs Mercedes Benz M Class vs Volvo XC60 spec compare

BMW X3 vs Q5 M class XC60Dimensions – It is safe to say BMW X3 facelift is second biggest SUV in its segment after Mercedes M Class. Former measures 4657 x 1881 x 1678 mm (Length x Width x Height) and 2810 mm wheelbase, while Merc SUV has size of 4804 x 1926 x 1796 mm (L x W x H) and 2915 mm wheelbase.

Audi Q5 is next big SUV with dimensions 4629 x 1898 x 1655 mm (L x W x H) and 2807 mm wheelbase. Volvo XC60 is kind of the smallest in class with 4644 x 1891 x 1433 mm (L x W x H) and 2774 mm wheelbase.

Engine – 2015 BMW X3 for India is launched with only one engine option (thus far), while Audi Q5, Mercedes Benz M Class and Volvo XC60 get two diesel engine choices each. There are no petrol variants in any of said SUVs in India.

BMW X3 xDrive20d is powered by inline 4 cylinder 2.0 litre (1995 cc) diesel engine with BMW Twin Power Turbo that produces 190 PS @ 4000 rpm and 400 Nm @ 1750 – 2500 rpm. It is mated to 8 Speed Steptronic transmission.

Audi Q5 comes in two trims, 2.0 litre TDI quattro and 3.0 litre TDI quattro, former has displacement of 1968 cc and latter has 2967 cc. Both power plants are turbocharged and equip Common Rail Injection System but 2.0 TDI has 4 cylinders inline and 3.0 TDI has V6 cylinder configuration. Lower variant of Q5 produces 177 PS @ 4200 rpm and 380 Nm @ 1750 – 2500 rpm while top of line V6 produces 245 PS @ 4000 – 4500 rpm and 580 Nm @ 1400 – 3250 rpm. Both engines are mated to 7 Speed S-tronic transmission.

Mercedes Benz M Class is offered in two variants, ML 250 CDI and ML 350 CDI. 2143 cc inline 4 cylinder engine produces 203 PS @ 4200 rpm and 500 Nm @ 1600 – 1800 rpm while 2987 cc V6 engine generates 254 PS @ 3600 rpm and 619 Nm @ 1600 – 2400 rpm. Both units are paired to 7G Tronic Plus transmission.

Volvo XC60 is available in D4 2.0 litre diesel and D5 2.5 litre diesel engine options. Five cylinder 1984 cc engine delivers 181 PS @ 4250 rpm and 400 Nm @ 1750 – 2500 rpm while 2400 cc 5 cylinder engine churns out 215 PS max. power and 440 Nm peak torque. D4 gets 8 Speed Auto gearbox while D5 gets 6 Speed Auto transmission setup.

Price – Volvo XC60 is most affordable SUV in the segment starting at Rs. 40.50 lakhs. 2015 BMW X3 facelift has starting price of Rs. 44.90 lakhs, Audi Q5 Rs. 47.16 lakhs, and Mercedes Benz ML 250 CDI is priced at Rs. 54.80 lakhs (ex-showroom).
