BMW X5 2014 innings opened by Sachin Tendulkar, Price Rs. 70.9 lakhs
BMW X5 2014 model was first showcased in Frankfurt Motor Show last year, and presented in Delhi Auto Expo in February 2014. The X5 facelift is launched in India by legendary cricketer and Bharat Ratna awardee, Sachin Tendulkar. New 2014 X5 xDrive30d is launched at a price of Rs. 70.9 lakhs (ex-showroom pan India).
The all new X5 gets revised front fascia for bolder persona and exhibits BMW’s updated design theme. The kidney grille makes a louder appeal with chrome coating and headlamps now look way more aggressive. Silver-esque appliqués on lower part of front bumper calls for better road presence than the older generation X5. The new air vent addition on front fenders adds to new X5′s fashion cues. There is not much to talk about the rear in terms of looks.
The third generation X5 xDrive30d gets redecorated interiors with BMW ConnectedDrive assist features. New iDrive (on-board Driver Information System) comes with touch input and handwriting recognition, and Park Distance Control (PDC) with reverse camera is made default in the new X5. Upholstery is available in Black, Canberra Beige, Ivory White, Mocha and Terra colour schemes.
New BMW X5 gets the same two part tailgate like the older gen, but now opens to completely foldable third row seating. The 40:20:40 split third row seat back can be levelled with the floor to make 1,870 litres of boot space. Bottom part of tailgate supports 250kg, good for picnic.
Powering the 2014 X5 SUV is the BMW TwinPower Turbo 3.0 litre in-line 6 cylinder diesel engine already seen in BMW 530d and 730d sedans. Max. power is 255 hp at 4,000 rpm and peak torque is 560 Nm between 1,500 and 3,000 rpm. 0 to 100 kmph sprint record shows 6.9 seconds and top speed is 230 kmph, through 8 speed auto transmission. There is no word about the 2.0 litre X5 xDrive25d variant.
All belts and whistles of BMW SUVs like Dynamic Traction and Stability Control, Auto Differentia, Brake and Cornering Brake Control, Hill Descent, Active Cruise Control and so on are seen in new X5 xDrive30d as well.
The Completely Knocked Down X5 will be assembled at BMW’s Chennai plant and delivered to showrooms from June 2014. Price of Rs. 70.9 lakh for this X5 facelift seems to be on the steeper side, we doubt if X5 would have enough traction in sales, compared to rivals.
Mr. Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India said, “The BMW X5 – the founder of the SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) segment and globally best-selling car in its class – is entering a new chapter in its successful history. The third-generation BMW X5 sees BMW once again setting the benchmark for powerful design, interior spaciousness and luxury, versatility, driving pleasure, efficiency and innovative equipment features. It accentuates the masculine presence and powerful personality and offers customers an all-round package that meets the most exacting and varied demands.”
