BMW X5 gets overwhelming response in India, bookings closed
Launched back in May this year, at a starting price of Rs 70.90 lakhs, the new BMW X5 SUV has met an overwhelming response in India. Today, BMW India revealed that due to this, they have to suspend further bookings of X5.
Top of the line BMW’s full sized family SUV, the X5 was first unveiled globally in May last year, while India debut was at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo in January this year. Offered with just one engine option, 3.0l inline 6 diesel turbocharged, generating 258 hp and 560 Nm torque, the new X5 was launched in India on 30th May 2014 at the hands of Sachin Tendulkar.
At the time of launch, it was only offered in one trim – Design Pure Experience. This was top of the line variant priced at an ex-showroom price of 70.90 lakhs. Later in June, beginning of local production of X5 was announced by BMW India. This was followed by the launch of an more affordable variant of X5 – Expedition. Same in performance, this was priced at an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 64.90 lakhs.
It is believed that the launch of Expedition X5 variant has triggered the rise in demand, and the huge number of bookings. BMW India did not reveal how many bookings they have received till date, but they did confirm that bookings will soon re-open.
BMW X5 competes with Mercedes GL Class and Audi Q7 in India.
