BMW X5 facelift India launch on May 29, bookings open
May 29, 2014 marks the date when BMW will be launching their third generation X5 SUV in India. With more enhanced dimensions than its predecessor, the new X5 will be lighter due to incorporation of several weight saving measures while it will be offered in 5 and 7 seater options.
BMW X5 was first introduced last year in May. For India, it made debut at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year. To come in with 3.0 liter diesel engine also seen on board BMW 530d and 730d sedan, the engine is capable of 258 bhp. Apart from this, a 2.0 liter diesel engine capable of 218 bhp can also be expected. Called xDrive 25d, this variant will compete against Mercedes ML250 CDI.
Prior to launch of the upcoming BMW X5, which will be assembled in India from CKD kits at BMW’s plant in Chennai, company dealers have commenced taking in bookings with a down payment of INR 5 lakhs. Promising deliveries by early June 2014. The new BMW X5, once launched, will command a price of INR 68 lakhs for the base 5 seater model and INR 72 lakhs for top end 7 seater variant.
The third generation BMW X5 SUV gets better performance and more fuel efficiency than the outgoing model and a sportier stance. The list of specifications to be noted on board will include Active Driving Assistant, Lane Departure Warning, Pedestrian Collision System, full range camera radar cruise control and Traffic Jam Assistant. BMW Night Vision, Head up Display and Parking Assistance is also to be offered along with Surround View System and Active Blind Spot Detection.
