Car2go has completed one year in service during this current month. The company was launched in March 2012 and currently has a total of 19000 members who have registered for its service while over 350,000 trips have been initiated.
Considering its success, the company has added 150 new vehicles to car2go and a total of 350 smart forttwo cars are now available for members use. This service is restricted to Washington DC alone and members can avail of their services for trips upto a total of half an hour and can range from 3 to 5miles.
This innovative service has its roots in saving of fuel and is ideally suited for those wishing to share the service with other members going in the same direction as well. This service not only saves money but protects the environment and is growing in demand. Car2go has designated parking spaces in garages throughout the city where members can park their vehicles when they are done with it.
Nicholas Cole, president and CEO of car2go North America said, “Through innovative technology and a strong commitment to carsharing, car2go members have transformed the way they move around Washington, D.C. in just one year.” “The integration of myTaxi in the car2go app is the first step in enhancing the on-demand experience and offering a new dimension of mobility to our car2go members in the District.”
Back in December 2012, 330 car2go edition smart fortwo vehicles for shared use with free membership registration for a limited period were introduced in Seattle. Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn had this to say, “car2go will soon be one of many ways that people can get around our city,” said Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn. “We welcome this new, innovative transportation choice for Seattle residents and visitors.”
City Councilmember Tom Rasmussen added, “I welcome car2go to Seattle. As chair of the Transportation Committee, one of my goals has been to provide Seattle residents with more transportation choices that make it easier and cheaper to get around the city. Carshare systems, like car2go, are a convenient, affordable option for people who want to reduce or eliminate the costs of car ownership.”
Nicholas Cole, president and CEO of car2go North America had this to say back then, “The City of Seattle will now have access to the most technologically advanced carsharing program in the market,” said “The car2go edition smart fortwo is specifically designed with technologies that allow an entire community to use and share cars collaboratively. Members gain access to a car2go with a swipe of a card, drive the car for as long as they’d like, simply end their rental anywhere within the car2go Home Area, and instantly the car becomes available for the next person to use.” “car2go is a great complement to existing public transportation, it has been a proven success in 17 cities around the world, and we look forward to bringing this new form of transportation to the City of Seattle.”
