This news will make many new car buyers wait a little longer. In an announcement made by GM India VP, Mr. P Balendran said, "We will introduce the diesel variant of 'Beat' soon". Mr. Balendran was in Chennai for the inauguration of a new showroom here in Chennai.
Launching Beat diesel was on the cards for quite some time. After the immense popularity of Beat petrol, Chevrolet was forced to think about launching the new people's car with diesel option.
Though nothing more has been disclosed by GM, experts believe diesel Beat to have 1.0L engine with 50 to 60 bhp output. Most probably GM will use Fiat's 1.3L Multi-jet diesel engine's derivative. Beat diesel is expected to cost around Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000 more than its petrol variant. GM plans to launch diesel Beat by the end of this year or early next year.
