General Motors is busy in their attempt to build a mid-size sedan to be developed in China. What's better is this development comes with plans of launching the car in India as well. This low cost wonder is being developed in China at SAIC-GM, which is the companys equal share JV with SAIC.

Apart from the low-cost minivans that are being produced here, plans revolving the cheap mid-size sedan entail a complete in-house attempt. At present the vehicle is codenamed SG-308, and pricing would fall within the Rs 650,000 and Rs 700,000 range. It's expected that the car will be on Indain roads by mid 2012.

The significance of this venture lies in the act that this Indian assembled wonder would be powered by Chinese techand would be the 1st passenger car from the SAIC-GM portfolio. The company is going ahead with this venture because the Indian low cost sedan segment is yet to be fully utilized, and obviously they don't want to add more pressure to their line of hatchbacks.

The car would fiercely compete with:

* Tata Motors' Indigo Manza (Rs 545,000-780,000)
* Indigo XL (Rs 600,000-800,000)
* Mahindra Logan (Rs 530,000-770,000)
* Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, sedan version (Rs 520,000-780,000)
