Chrysler to introduce Eight and Nine Speed Transmissions which will be 25 percent more efficient

Chrysler has also started recruiting and training workers for its ambitious project. Production of 8 speed transmission will begin latert this year, while 9 speed transmission production is expected to begin by the first quarter of 2013. German automotive supplier ZF Group will be co-developing these high end transmissions.
Mr Brian Harlow, Vice President Powertrain, Chrysler, said, “It replaces everything, literally. Everything that we are making today will get it.” These new transmissions will be 25% more fuel efficient than the current line of transmissions. “There is a definite road map that takes us,” added Mr Harlow.
Currently, 8 speed transmissions are available in Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300. Chrysler now plans on introducing 8 speed transmissions to their trucks and SUV’s. Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Challenger, RAM, Jeep Wrangler and their trucks, all will be featuring the new 8 speed transmission. Nine speed transmission will be seen on all front wheel driven Chrysler cars.
