On 26th February 2015, Ratan Tata, Tata Group’s Chairman Emeritus was conferred with an honorary Doctorate of Automotive Engineering by the Clemson University.
Ratan Tata, 77, attended the South Carolina Automotive Summit this week where he was honoured for his expansive contributions to the automotive field.
Anand Gramopadhye, Dean of Clemson’s College of Engineering and Science named Ratan Tata as a titan in the automotive industry in India and a leader in the global markets with interests not only in the automotive industry but also in transportation, steel, consulting, communications, chemicals and hospitality. James Clements, President of Clemson University said that Ratan Tata was noted for his far reaching impact and as a role model for students as he leads with both integrity and compassion.
Ratan Tata joined the Tata Group in 1962 as Chairman of Tata Industries. He is also on the Board of Directors of Alcoa and Mondelez while he is on the advisory board of Mitsubishi Corpn., JPMorgan Chase, Rolls Royce, Temasek Holding and Monetary Authority of Singapore.
Tata is also a Padma Vibhushan awardee and served as Chairman of major Tata companies such as Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Power, Tata Global Beverages, Tata Chemicals, Indian Hotels and Tata Teleservices. It was during his tenure that the Group saw revenue increase many fold and during 2011-12 totaled over $100 billion. Last year, Ratan Tata was the recipient of Knight Grand Cross, one of the British Government’s highest civilian honors in recognition for the work done by Tata Group in the island nation.
