First impression – Front fascia of 2014 Fiesta, especially front grille and air dam design bears a subtle similarity with the Aston Martins’ charm. The trapezoidal grille design is a part of One Ford global program. Swept back headlights, sporty bumpers and muscular impression of bonnet demands eyeballs to follow. Complimenting rear facade and sleek spoked alloys do well for the car.
Honda City, in its 4th generation in India, is a blend of sport and elegant appeal. New version gets distinct thick chrome slat for front grille, and redesigned tail lights. City’s silhouette, especially side profile is beginning to loose its wow factor, since it does not scream new generation.
Hyundai Verna probably has the most inconspicuous snout of the three, which sometimes is relaxing. Fluidic design, body lines are passed on to almost every new model, compromising exclusivity. Verna can be described as neat and trendy.
Interiors – All three sedans have dual tone dashboard and door panel finish, and piano black trims. Belts and whistles like driver and shotgun airbags, ABS with EBD, automatic climate control, music player, bluetooth connectivity, handsfree calling, steering mounted audio controls and reverse assist through proximity sensors or camera (in case of City), are similar in the trio.
Front seats of 2014 Ford Fiesta provide good thigh and lumbar support especially when the car takes on corners and makes swift moves on road. Rear seats lack comfort, inadequate legroom. Narrow design of Fiesta does not provide enough room for 3 passengers at the back seat. Honda City leads in comfort aspect inside the cabin, Hyundai Verna follows closely.
Engine and Performance – Hyundai Verna 1.6 litre diesel variant is the most powerful with 128 PS max. power achieved at 4,000 rpm. Hyundai Verna also packs most torque on paper, 260 Nm between 1,900 and 2,750 rpm. Honda City stands next with 100 PS and 200 Nm. New Ford Fiesta bears same old engine with 91 PS max. power at 3,750 rpm and 204 Nm between 2,000 and 2,750 rpm. Hyundai Verna and Honda City is known for better driving as well for being driven around in. Fiesta ranks next, fighting with 1.4 litre Hyundai Verna.
Price –New Ford Fiesta is the most affordable of the three, starting at Rs. 7.69 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). Top spec Fiesta is also least expensive at Rs. 9.29 lakhs. Honda City is positioned between Fiesta and Hyundai vern with low end priced at Rs. 8.37 lakhs and high end at 10.89 lakhs. Verna demands most out of wallet, priced between Rs. 9.42 lakhs and 11.51 lakhs.
