Daimler India Heavy Duty truck sales overtakes that of Volvo Eicher

Subsidiary of German commercial vehicle manufacturers, Daimler AG, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) have toppled Volvo Eicher CV JV in ranking, as far as heavy duty truck sales is concerned. Daimler is now the third largest heavy duty truck manufacturer in India, after Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland, which is noteworthy, considering the company only made an entry into India two years ago. For overall commercial vehicle segment, Volvo Eicher continues to hold the third place in India.

Daimler Trucks sales overtakes Volvo Eicher in IndiaAs per sales reports submitted by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Daimler India Commercial Vehicles now control market share of 4.3% in the domestic heavy duty truck market (FY 2013/14). Market share of VECV in the same segment stood at 3.9% for the same period. Daimler AG sells its trucks under the brand name Bharat Benz in India. Total sales have reached well over the 10,000 unit mark in two years and the company is fast emerging as a favoured brand in the heavy duty truck market in the country.

Bharat Benz products include medium duty Bharat Benz trucks covering weight categories from 9 to 12 tonnes while their heavy duty trucks span from 25 to 31 tonnes. The company is also in an expansion mode and are adapting to best of technologies from their global portfolios.

Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland however still dominate the Indian truck market scenario with top two positions, commanding a market share of 59% and 27% respectively. Daimler AG’s Bharat Benz models are best suited to the India climatic and economic conditions. They have been developed after extensive research carried out by Stuttgart based Daimler engineers in India over 5 years.

Their heavy duty tippers and trucks are used for distribution and transportation of goods, as refrigerator vehicles in the food sector and extensively in the industrial and construction industry. These trucks are noted for their high level of efficiency, enhanced performance and high reliability standards. Unlike competition, they do not offer discounts, and their products are sold mostly on word-of-mouth advertisement. Bharat Benz trucks also comply with Indian emission standards Bharat Stage III and are also compliant to meet the BSIV stage.
