Today is a historic moment for Nissan Motor Company said Ashwini Gupta, Programme Director – Datsun Business Unit in his opening speech at the Datsun Go launch today, bringing the brand back exactly a century after its first introduction.

Growth in future in India is rising as purchasing power strengthens. In Indonesia about 75/1000 people own a car. In India that number is 15/1000. Patterns in high growth markets support sales and purchase of new cars as against a matured market where replacement cars play an important role.

Dream, Access and Trust (DAT) is what Datsun upholds. The brand is concentrating on understanding customer needs to engineer products based on research, ensuring plenty of localization. Datsun has a design value and a dynamic car that goes from 0-100 in 13.3 seconds. Datsun Go has even worked on ensuring motion sickness doesn’t effect rear seat passengers to a great degree.

32 year father of two, Jaspal Singh was called on stage to be handed a ceremonial key for being the 1st of Datsun customers in the 21st century. Meenakshi Srinivasan, an IT professional and mother of 2 was next on stage to be celebrated.

Datsun Go will make its way into India in a price bracket of INR 3-4 lakhs. It will be a hatchback with well appointed interior space and comforts and will be powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces a maximum power output of 68bhp and 110Nm of peak torque. The hatchback will be compact and mileage will stand at 20 kmpl. This is the same engine that is seen on board the Micra which has been tuned to offer better performance and enhanced output.

Datsun Go, boasts of elegant exteriors with a chrome plated honeycomb grille, a well defined headlamp cluster and flared wheel arches. The rear end sports a pair of large tail lamps with the Datsun badge adding to its aesthetic appeal

Seen earlier at the 2014 Auto Expo, Datsun Go made its global debut last year. This is the first product after revival of the Datsun brand which will compete with both Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon. Datsun is also to launch a sub 4 meter Go+ MPV which will compete with Maruti Ertiga and Chevrolet Enjoy. RediGo is another concept showcased by Datsun at the Auto Expo but this model will be in a premium category once launched.
