The new Nissan Datsun prototype codenamed K2 gets set to be unveiled in July 2013 at the hands of CEO of Renault Nissan, Carlos Ghosn. He will be visiting Delhi in July 2013 exclusively for this purpose. Revival of this Datsun brand was announced earlier this year as it is poised to enter Indian markets in the low cost car segment.
Besides being launched in India in the B Plus segment priced above Rs.4 lakhs, Nissan has plans to project the vehicle in markets of Indonesia and Russia as well. Another Nissan small car, codenamed I2 will also enter India in due course where it will be offered in a price category of Rs.2.5 lakhs and above.
An ultra low cost car to compete with the Tata Nano, Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon is also expected by 2014. All three small cars will be designed at the Renault Nissan Technology & Business Centre, India located in Chennai. Ghosn is well aware of India’s engineering prowess and has hence chosen the Indian technical centre for the development of these upcoming vehicles. The trio should be showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Show and should go on sale later that year itself.
