Datsun redi-Go spied testing once again – Update

Update – 6th November 2015

2016 Datsun Redi-Go in production ready format has been spied once again. The new spy shots were clicked by Team-BHP.

Just like the earlier spy shot, this test mule is also heavily camouflaged. But, this new spy shot reveals the alloy wheel design, which was blurred in the previous spy shot.

Original Story – 4th November 2015

Motorvikatan has spotted testing the production version of the Datsun redi-Go in Chennai. This is the first spotting of the test mule in public roads. The redi-Go debuted at the 2014 Auto Expo as a design study.

The test mule is fully camouflaged but the wedge shaped rear fascia and location of taillight clusters clearly indicate the car’s identity. From what can be seen, the production version retains the concept’s design as it is.

Based on the CMF-A low-cost platform that also underpins the newly launched Renault Kwid, the redi-Go is essentially a Kwid with a different top-hat. While the dimensions of the two models appear to be comparable, the design direction of the redi-Go is completely different from that of the Kwid and hence it would appeal to a different set of audience.

Save for a few elements like the LED headlamps and foglights, the concept’s design would be carried forward.

Power will come from the same 800 cc three-cylinder petrol engine which is good for 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque. Mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, the motor is likely to have a identical mileage figure of 25.17 kmpl.

The Datsun redi-Go will benefit from the same cost structure that made the Kwid a very tempting proposition in the entry level hatchback segment. The local development, heavy localization of 98% and an enhanced economies of scale would enable Nissan’s budget brand to price it around INR 2.5-3.5 lakhs (ex-showroom). The most affordable Datsun is touted to be a game changer for the brand.
