While diesel prices have been increased by Rs.5, it will have a cascading effect on prices of various commodities which will leave the common man grasping at straws. The price rise is seen as a boon for the State Government while it is looked upon as a bane for the common man who is as it is struggling with rising prices and a diffident economy. It may be looked upon as just a Rs.5 increase but this does contribute to a whopping Rs.21 per liter hike in prices of premium diesel.

These prices came into effect from midnight of September 14th. As on date, premium diesel from HPCL will cost Rs.72.80 per liter as compared to Rs.51.31 per liter prior to September 14, while premium petrol or Power Petrol has seen an increase from Rs. 78.27 per liter to Rs.81.01 post September 14th.

The company has confirmed that these new prices have already come into effect and this will affect users of high end luxury cars. Prices of regular diesel have been increased from Rs.46.17 per liter to Rs.52.37 in Pune. While a rice hike was expected, political unrest may see a diesel price rollback in India this week.
