No more cars: Drones to be used to deliver books, minutes after you order them
Commercial drone service provider, Flirtey has entered into a joint venture with Zookal, a book rental company to deliver textbooks to students, practically as soon as they place their orders. Set to launch at the end of this year, the text book company Zookal will have drones zipping through the air delivering books to students.
Flirtey is yet to receive approvals from Civil Aviation Safety Authority, but have confirmed that the service will be put to test in November this year while the service will be launched commercially in 2014 with a fleet of 6 drones. The company will have multiple distribution points in major cities with a total time between submitting an order and receiving the consignment in two to three minutes. The drone will be able to deliver the consignment to outdoor spaces, be it doorsteps, backyards or even onto balconies. Starting deliveries within a kilometer radius, the delivery distance will be extended to 5 to 10 kms in due course. (Source: Mashable)
