Estonia nationwide ABB fast charger network for electric vehicles

An ABB fast charger technology has been installed in Estonia at 165 locations in urban and rural locations. This network of 165 fast charger stations is the highest concentration of DC chargers seen in Europe. DC chargers present on major highways and inner roads at nominal distances, make it possible for people to travel along the Baltic coast without having to worry about running out of charge.

In order to encourage drivers to take up electronic modes of transport, Estonian government offers a subsidy of 50% to those opting for these models. This dense network will cater to needs of 5000 inhabitants and ABB hopes that individuals will take to using electric vehicles for transportation needs. This being said the Terra 51 fast chargers require only 15- 30 minutes to charge a vehicle unlike traditional charging ports. One can make use of DC charging facilities of 50 kW and AC charging of 22 kW respectively.

The network of these DC fast chargers was installed within a span of 6 months and the agreement includes IT infrastructure support service for these stations that are connected via the internet.
